A New Direction

The PG Lady Chargers Cheer Program has been associated with football for the past four years. We have come together and developed a plan to enhance the cheer program.

Beginning in January 2012, the PG Lady Chargers will be a yearround cheer program. The program will now include tumbling classes in addition to cheer camps, stunt clinics, and competitions already offered.

Having a year-round program will change the focus of the girls and show them that cheerleading is a sport. There is more to cheerleading than being on the sidelines supporting your teams. Cheerleading involves a lot of skill, team, and character building. Participants cannot learn this in six months. It takes time, persistence, and a lot of practice.

Two Seasons

The Spring Season will run from January-May of each year. During this time, the cheerleaders will focus on perfecting arm motions and jumps. This will be done by teaching cheers and chants that will be performed during basketball games. In addition, participants will receive tumbling instruction once per week. This season is also the peak time for competitions. Cheer squads will participate in competitions at the coach’s discretion.

The Fall Season will run from June-December of each year. During this time, the cheerleaders will focus on perfecting stunts according to their skill level. This will be done by attending stunt clinics and cheer camps. In addition, participants will receive tumbling instruction once per week. This season is the beginning of competitions. Cheer squads will participate in 2-3 competitions as well as support their football teams on the sidelines.

American Youth Football & Cheer

The American Youth Football (AYF) League created a sister league uniquely for its’ Cheerleaders. This league is called American Youth Cheer (AYC). Any cheerleading, dance or step team who cheers for, or is affiliated with, an American Youth Football Team is automatically welcomed into this organization.

Squad Divisions

Squads are formed and adhere to AYC rules and regulations. There is a five member minimum to be considered a cheer squad. The age cut off date for each division is July 31 of the current year. Final rosters are due to AYC on August 31 for the Fall season. Squad Divisions and skill levels are as follows:

Tiney/Mitey Mite 5,6,7,8 *RED ONLY - plus mascots
Division 10 8,9,10 *RED ONLY

Division 13 11,12,13 *Red and Blue

The monthly dues cover all aspects of the cheer program including: tumbling lessons, cheer camps, stunt clinics, gym rental, cheer insurance, local AYC competition fees, uniform, warm up, and accessories. There are additional costs for AYC regional and national competitions as well as those outside of the league. There will be fundraising efforts to assist with these costs.
